What’s COP26 all about? – BBC My World #shorts

A summit which is seen as crucial if climate change is to be brought under control is taking place – it’s called COP26. Chances are you’ve heard the name mentioned quite a bit over the past couple of months. But what exactly it is?

COP stands for ‘Conference of the Parties’. It’s set up by the United Nations, and brings world leaders together to come up with an agreement on what to do about the climate crisis. This year it’s taking place in the UK from 31 October – 12 November. 200 countries are being asked for their plans to cut emissions by 2030.

The world is warming because of fossil fuel emissions caused by humans. And extreme weather events linked to climate change are intensifying. Governments agree urgent collective action is needed.

Here are some top mentions to help break it down.
